This book is packed with information presented in a friendly and approachable manner. I appreciated the honesty of the author about her own initial struggles with public speaking, making this book a more relatable read coming from lived experience. Chapters end with a helpful summary and a quiz. Information covered includes everything from the history of public speaking to the importance of nonverbal communication and adaptability in different settings. Because there is so much information and context here, it's useful that the chapters are broken down into more navigable sections if the reader happens to be looking for more specific advice.

This book is a very comprehensive and actionable guide to public speaking. I appreciated that it was written for a layperson, with no overuse of jargon, and there were plenty of examples and real-world connections to make it more relatable for the reader. There were also helpful summaries at the end of each chapter. Overall, I will definitely be recommending this book as an addition to our collection.

For people who are unsure of where to start with public speaking, this is a valuable resource—especially many of the early chapters. For individuals who know the basics of public speaking, there is still valuable information here for structuring, timing, and understanding the components of public speaking and what makes a speech effective. Some of the advice is quite generalized (again, this is most prevalent in the early chapters), but much of the advice can be applied and used in one's own speeches and speech-writing activities. Overall, this is a great resource for anyone with a phobia of public speaking.
