Great book to help prepare for the GRE essays!! Very helpful strategies and the essays are also detailed. I have read through only few topics yet but will definitely read through all of them. Writing can be spontaneous or creative which is a regular flow of thoughts using coherent sentences and grammar. Somehow this kind of writing is not the subject of the test in many exams like GRE. So first you need to look through the scoring guide on how issue and argument tasks for GRE are prepared. Then I would suggest that you come back and test yourself to see where you stand.
You can be the best judge of your abilities. Even if you cheat, you are well aware that your scores wont stand the actual test. This book tells you about two different kinds of prompts which are used in this exam. The test requires you to follow specific directions. For issues, you have to take a position (maybe for or against) in the second case for an argument, you have to determine merits and demerits.
Remember that in a test you have a limited amount of time. So if you have not prepared well beforehand, you are bound to lose. Hence this kind of test guide comes in handy. You will also find expert recommendations in this book. Do keep in mind that these are just suggestions and it is not essential to follow each and every one of them.
As the number of samples is quite enough (30 for Analyze an Issue, and 30 for Analyze an Argument) by the time you have completed the book you will understand fairly well if you can complete the test in time. This is just one part of the test and you will have to keep in mind that you cant devote all your time to just one section. I would recommend practicing from this and using it as a workbook.

I bought this book late August of 2019 to help prepare me for my GRE that I ended up taking on November 3rd of 2019. At the time, I had just graduated from college in May and needed to take the analytical writing portion of the GRE to apply to my first choice program for grad school. Since I had already graduated, I was alone in a sense that I had no professors or writing center to help me prep for the written portion. I went in totally blind, except for this book.

I studied for the GRE by going through this whole book twice. The first time I wanted to just familiarize myself with the material such as what is expected from me and how to answer the essay prompts correctly. The second time I went through the book, I jotted down some notes alongside the essays. I was anxious about whether or not this study method was useful, but I figured that studying this book was better than nothing.

The day that I took my test I felt prepared. I finished the analytical portion first and I just knew that I got a good score. I would not see my score until maybe 1-2 weeks later. I got a 5.0. I successfully fulfilled requirements for the grad program and got accepted a few weeks ago, but I felt like me getting a 5.0 on the GRE was the cherry on top to my application. Because I got a good score, I will not have to take the mandatory supplemental writing test that the grad students have to take.

This book made it so easy for me to study while I had a full time job and other life obligations. I like that the essays are mostly great examples that illustrate the proper way to answer every part of the prompt. They cover a variety of topics that helps you hone in on a general range of facts that would be useful in your writers toolbox to whip out to strengthen your essay. For example, the book mentioned that a writer should have general knowledge on a few different fields such as politics, science and the arts because any useful tidbit of knowledge or quote would work well as examples in the essays. Theres also notes breaking down the process of multiple sides of an argument and how to elaborate on your side of the argument. This book prepared me far better than I thought it would and I am glad it did. If you need to study for the writing portion of the GRE, I highly suggest you purchase this book as a study tool.

Good book I would recommend to anyone trying to study for the GRE. It has good examples so you can base your essays on them.

It will teach you everything you need to know to take and pass the GRE Essay writing test. I appreciate the way the book was outlined and the way it was presented. If you follow the directions and lesson in this book, you should do well on the GRE essay test.

I wanted to be prepared for the GRE essays before sitting for the exam and in my search for a good book, found this book on amazon. It had decent reviews so I thought of giving it a try and I think it is worth every cent. The essay topics are explained in a simple, clear language. After that, the author lists many points that will give trigger to your thought process. So, you have the points from the author plus your own points combining which you can write a pretty decent essay. To add to it, there is a sample essay also given for each Issue/Argument. I would read through the sample essay once to get an idea of how do I organize my thoughts. The book has worked wonders for me. Even for the topics not covered in the book, now I know exactly how should I go about organizing my thoughts and writing an essay that would get me a score of 6

Must-have book for all GRE exam takers.

Essays of varying quality. Some presented weakly or misinterpreted the instructions.

Had heard good reviews about this book, thought of giving it a shot. Bought kindle edition as returns are easy. Read this one very quickly as my exam is very near, and I dont want to return this book. Will refer to this atleast 2-3 times before my real GRE next week.
